Artist's Statement:
I am a self taught, fine art painter living and working in beautiful Valley Springs, CA. My home is my studio and the landscape around me is the inspiration for my fine art acrylic paintings.
I seem to have a sense of nostalgia for the land and buildings around me. I have a strong interest in American Regionalist painting and consider that some of the concepts defined by that movement creep into my efforts to paint what I see around me. I try to translate this to my final paintings by developing a feeling for what I am observing and considering the history of the place or thing. Landscapes and the objects in them seem to resonate with some energy for me. It is all interesting and I can't help but be in awe of my surroundings. I try to take what I am experiencing and translate it to my canvas, concentrating on specific and finite forms, colors, and light and shadow. The land and space around me seems old; like it has a story waiting to be expressed. Painting is a challenge and when I can accurately express myself, it is very rewarding.
I consider that my style and approach are in process and that they will continue to evolve as new experiences and skills are acquired. Being creative is a real joy! Painting is a lot like writing or speaking in that an idea or thought can be communicated and a dialogue started. My art is important to me as a component for expression, communication, and interaction.
