This is my version of the Masonic Hall at early morning. The hall is located in Milton, CA which is just down the road from where I live in Valley Springs. In doing a little research I learned that the hall was designated as one of the "historic dozen" buildings or ruins of importance in West Calaveras County. I also learned that there is a marker associated with the building. It seems to me from reading the information on this link that the building was originally erected in Copperopolis in 1862 but was later moved to Milton when the copper industry collapsed. The Stockton and Copperopolis railroad terminated at Milton and plans for having the rail lines go further never materialized.
I am really pleased to say that there are some super resources for learning about my area. I will be including them on the page tab at the top of the blog. Please have a look at that page entitled "resources."
Thanks,
Libby
10/11/11 Update to above post: I learned via Our Valley Springs.com blog that Milton Hall was originally a saloon run by a gentleman named Bulldog Smith. The building was later the town hall and was subsequently purchased by the Freemasons in 1881.
